CHAINS…The Melodic Rock Youth !
Interview with Matt Haze
1. Hello, would you like to to talk us about your past & present in music biz? Introduce us to your band.
The band Chains has existed for about a year now, with the kind of music we play today. Since then some changes with line-up etc. have been made but the musical goal is still the same – to play some really good Rock! We’re trying to do as many gigs as possible and spread the word to everyone, basically working our way to the top!
2. What kind of music influences do you have?
Nearly everything! All members listen to a lot of different music, but of course Hardrock and Metal, especially from the 80’s, are the main influences for the band. But it’s important to listen to other things aswell, you can get inspiration from many things, even though our musical direction is Rock!
3.What kind of feedback do you have from fans and media?
One thing is interviews, just like this one, and we’re also being played in radio which is really fun and a good way to reach new groups of people! We’ve been contacted by people from many different places who are wondering things about the band or have wanted a cd or something else, and also in Sweden we get to play to new people all the time, it’s great and we love it!
4. You’re young but pretty talented as musicians and composers, what’s your little secret?
Haha, well thanks a lot! A typical clichι but also a big truth is to work hard and practice a lot, both individually and as a band. Four of us in the band are studying music in school which has helped us a lot. So it’s all about practice and practice really, it takes time but it’s well worth it!
5. How do you promote yourselves in local and global level?
Playing live as much as possible, talking to people both in the business and fans, spreading the word! Other ways are CDs, merchandise, our website, Myspace, e-mailing and calling different people – it’s important to be seen and heard, to get people to know about you!
So basically in every way we can at the moment! We’ve also got our manager/promotor doing a lot of things for us which is really great and a big help!
6. What’s your goals in music ?
Our goal is to play the music we want and to be able to make a living of it since it is what we wanna do in life. Just to get to play to as much as possible, you just can’t get tired of it!
7. Is there any interest from labels?
There has been some interest but we are still looking for the right deal.
8. What’s your opinion about the local scene in Sweden?
The scene is really great! There are so many good bands in Sweden and both 80’s rock and sleaze are getting big again so the number of fans is growing all the time which makes it easier to get to play live and to get response for what you do!
9. How do you predict the future of the band in 10 years from now?
Tough one, but maybe on a worldwide tour playing 3-hour-sets for thousands of people?
Haha, we’ll see.. it’s really difficult to predict so we’re just trying to grow bigger and bigger, then we’ll see where it ends. But of course we wanna be the best!
10. What’s your next music move?
At the moment – to play even more live shows than we do now and to get a bigger fanbase. Recordings will probably wait for a while, but it depends on where we are when the summer is over. So live shows is priority # 1 at the moment!
