AHOORA…Thrash Metal From Iran !

Interview with Milad

1. Hello guys please introduce the band to the public, give us a small bio..

Hi we’re Ahoora, you may call us a progressive thrash band, and we were formed late 2001 in Tehran, Iran.

2. How hard is for a metal band living in Iran ?

I don’t want to be enthusiastic, but hard by all the means. No public respect, no permission to rehearse, release or perform, no future, no money earned, what else could you ask for?!

3. What kind of problems do you face with the local government law due to your music attitude?

As I said there will be no space for you to breathe and live in as rock musician, when you can not see the feedbacks, when you can not take what you got to a god forsaken stage, all hopes start to fade and that’s going to be real tough when you intending to do it for several years. I believe most of the problems are before the stage that we face the authorities.

4. Is there a rock / metal scene in Iran ? How do you gather information for the music releases , news ?

There is no real scene here. When people can not meet each other and share things, or perform or release, I think there won’t be anything like a scene. Yet Internet remains the only source of information and news about foreigner or Iranian bands.

5. What kind of tricks do you use in order to avoid being caught for your music attitude?

There are no tricks! Just live our daily lives; there is almost nothing that we can do regarding this situation. Is there?

6. What’s the role of religion in your music and lyrics ?

Absolutely it plays no role! We are brought up in an extreme religious society and this has affected us deeply throughout these years and there must some traces of this in our music too, but that’s not a thing that we would want to deal with straightly.

7. Do you think that the entertainment inustry in Iran can accept western culture rock / metal bands ?

There is no entertainment industry in Iran. It’s all about and in hands of government; so there is no actual industry. The government, the ideology doesn’t accept that, can’t improve itself back from all those centuries in darkness and hatred.

8. Do you think that the limitations in your life can have an impact on your lyrics and lifestyle in general ?

I’m not sure whether to use “unfortunately” or “fortunately” but without any doubt: YES! It’s all about what we are in our daily lives.

9. Lately you faced an issue with a Russian music compilation, would you like to talk us more about it ?

Yes! thanks for asking. In the middle of recording “All in Blood with you” we were contacted by Russian slayer fan club about a tribute cover cd which meant to celebrate 25 years of slayer. We did “Blood Red” from “Seasons in Abyss” and we signed the contract and sent it plus the recorded song. Then he vanished and answered no mails. Finally I found out that the album was released in September and he had used a picture of bunch of suicide bombers instead of us! Both in the booklet and the promo video! As expected he answered no e-mails. It still is a mystery to me why he acted so dumb and without comprehension.

10.What’s the differences between West and East Entertainment cultures ?

I think being released from religion which west did it in late 16th made them go forward and be open to many things, man understood that it is vital to respect everyone’s idea and it’s vital for everybody to have the right to think and talk as he/she want to. This departure from religion is the most key point dividing east and west in many issues such as entertainment and arts.
