THONK
1. How did you come up with this name for the band ?
On October 98 our keyboarder Marc, a guitar player and our drummer Flavio formed a Deep Purple cover band , we called this project “child in time”and the biggest problem for the audience was to remember the long name. One years later we were very bored to play all these covers. At the same time the guitar player left the band, so we started a new project. For this trio without guitars we searched a short name formed with casual letters for a big impact who doesn’t have any signification in any languages, so that all people can remember. simply, Thonk!
2.How would you characterize your music ?
We don’t like to characterize our music, because we don’t like to be classified. Of course our album “earth vision impact” is an art rock album with jazz influences, but we let the people decide.
3. You have a new album , tell me the whole story …..
What can I say? our album is 2 years hard work of three musicians. We choose the tracklist so, that the listener can simply slide in the thonk-world, the text inside of the booklets will’ be helpful to understand the whole stories of the songs.
4.So , what is going on with progressive music in your country , is there any future for this music ?
The progressive music is an underground scene in our country. at the moment peoples identifies prog through Dream Theater – nothing more. It’s not so simply to find a lot of really good places to playing live concerts, because most people and producers like hip hop and dance music, it’s easier to sell. That’s why we decide to record our album in the crimsonic studio of our producer in Sweden. I hope that the future brings more good progressive bands to keep higher the level of this kind of music.
5. Are you satisfied from your label ?
We choose to working with Galileo records, because the label is not only a label, it’s more a friend to us. He lets the musicians free creativity, ask us over opinions, and let make the mastering by Bob Katz in other words: a dream of a label !
6. Any plans for concerts ?
We plans a Swiss tour with a couple of concerts in the countries around
Switzerland. The tour start will’ be the 29. of June 2001 with a release party
