SLAINE
1.First of all, tell us the history of “Slaine”?
Slaine has been founded in 1992 by Adi (drums) and This (vocals) formely as a kind of school band. After some line-up changes Renato (bass) an I (Marco, guitar) the band was named Slaine in 1994. After two changes of guitarist, Dani came to us and stayed for more or less seven years. Recently he left the band by his own will and we’ve recruted Kursti as a new guitarist. This is the brief biography of Slaine, if you want to see the details, just go to our webpage (http://www.slaine.ch)!
2.Tell us some details for the mcd “Non”
We recorded NON in the beginning of this year in the Ballhorn Studio in Kyburg, Switzerland. This in own regie with very precious help from the studio-team Klaus Grimmer and Gian Albertin. The mastering was done by Walter Schmid (producer of Apolyon sun (ex-Celtic Frost) and remasterer of the old Celtic Frost-LP’s) at Oakland Recordings in Winterthur.
NON has 4 regular Tracks and an additional Instrumental-track. It’s playtime is about 21 Minutes.
3.Is there any feedback from the audience about the mcd till now ?
Oh ja, we’ve got very good feedback from the side of the kids, even if most of them see in us rather a live-band than a Studio-Band. In fact we have to points of critic coming from the audience: First of all the complain, that the mcd is to short with 4 regular Tracks to show the whole bandwide of Slaine’s repertoire, and – as second critic – the production isn’t as well as it should be.
We are aware of the two mentioned problems, but these are due to a lack of money. It’s fucking expensive to make a record in Switzerland!
4.Which is the procedure when you write the songs?
Oh nowadays it gonna change, cos of our new guitarist. But most of the songs have been assembled and written more or less in this way:
The songtext is the basic of the song. With it, I could construct a songstructure for the rythm-guitar. So the structure and the main-riffs were given. This stuff then is beeing introduced to the rest of the band for a first audit. After fixing the definitve songstructure (still for the rythm-guitar) all together, every member of the band started it’s creativ-process and wrote it’s line for the song. You see: the songs starts with a little suggestion by my side and end with a complex 5-people-songwriting. Sometime I think, that the songs completely turns inside out since the first chords written for it.
As mentioned this is the process for the most songs we have, but not for all. Some of them have been brought in by Renato (bass) or Dani (who left the band).
5.Have you already played any gig?
Yes sire! Im not really sure, but since 1994 we’ve played more gigs than all our band-fingers added. We really love to play gigs! This live-atmosphere is just great!
6.Your influences from the metal scene?
Oho; we are five absolutely different musician, with 5 absolutely different influences. Our drummer loves stuff like ulver (old things), old school death metal like Entombed or Unleashed. The singer listens to bands like the old Amorphis and the bassist like band like Malevolent Creation or even Korn or Primus. About the new guy Kurst I can’t tell you, maybe something like our drummer. I have my faves in Dark Tranquillity, Unleashed, Vader, Amon Amarth and a whole bundle of other bands.
7.Tell me you favorite album and your favorite band
Hmmm… “once sent from the golden hall” from Amon Amarth is one of my top fav album! Great atmosphere and simple but powerful songwriting. Real pure Death Metal as it should be. This album is just hell.
8.Where do you come from?
We are from Switzerland and lives near Zurich.
9.Tell me your opinion about the metal scene in your country?
A lot of very great band, in my eyes are some even able to become a masteract. But unfortunately in Switerland it is very difficult to become a international status, because there are no Chance getttng support from the goverment or similar. Fucking shame. But the metal people are really fuzzy and cool and the undergroundscene is just great!
10.What are your plans in the future for “Slaine”?
Lot of concerts, lot of fun and finally a good labeldeal!
11.Is metal a way of your life?
Definitely: Even if I can’t live the “Metalfeeling” during my working hours, I really feel well into metalscene!
12.I found you through internet, do you think that the net can replace the
old underground days?
Yes, absolutely. The internet is the new very wide platform for the underground! But nothing can replace going to underground concerts and having lot of fun!
13.Thanks for your interview and close the interview as you like
Thank you for the questions! Hail Metal, Hail Metalbrothers and -sisters, Fuck Racism!
