NAER MATARON
1.First of all, tell me the history of “Naer Mataron”?
Naer Mataron exists as a band since the ends of 1994. We have released so far 3 CDs, the “Up From The Ashes” back in ’98, the “Skotos Aenaon” in the year 2000 and now our latest CD the “River At Dash Scalding”. During the autumn of 2002 we released a 7″ep limited to 500 hand numbered copies, entitled “A Holocaust In Front Of God’s Eyes”. We have also participated in two very compilations, the tributes to Bathory and to Celtic Frost. The current line-up is Morpheas (guitars, screams and recitations), Kaidas (bass) and Warhead (drums).
2.Tell me some details for your newest CD
First of all it contains 10 trax and it has 55 minutes duration. The 8 songs are fast and grim black metal and two are noise compositions that Nordvargr from the Swedish MZ412 has composed especially for Naer Mataron. Also in the “River At Dash Scalding” there is also a cover of the song “The Plunderer” of Ved Buens Ende.
3.Is there any feedback from the audience about this cd until now?
‘Till now I have received only good reviews from the worldwide scene. Everyone seems to like the fact that there are bands nowadays that are still brutal and
un-compromised…I am very satisfied with the feedback ’till now.
4.Which is the procedure when you write the songs?
First we write the lyrics of the song and afterwards we get the inspiration from the lyrics in order to create the music part. We work in very simple ways.
5.Where are your lyrics referring?
Our lyrics deal with our ancestors’ heroic battles, the ancient customs and traditions, the ancient European Pantheon and of course with the war against christianity. The Christian plague is the reason for everything that Europe has suffered and definitely we want the destruction of this religion for sub-humans.
6.Have you already played any gig, and tell me your favourite live?
We have given only 4 gigs so far. Our best gigs would be the one were we supported the Norwegian Mayhem back in 1999 and of course our last live appearance 3 months ago were we supported Rotting Christ in front of 1500 maniacs.
7.Your influences from the metal scene?
I don’t listen to metal for many years now. I have stopped listening to metal since 1995 as it stopped to appeal my soul. I only listen to Black Metal and to other forms of dark music. Therefore from Black Metal my influences come from bands like Darkthrone, Burzum, Beherit, Sorhin, (old) Immortal, Gorgoroth. (old) Ulver,e.t.c.
8.Tell me some words about the cd cover
It shows the demonic transformation of our bass player Kaiadas. I think that it is a great cover. It is a mixture of a photo that was painted afterwards. The whole subject was an idea and creation of Set<h> of Septic Flesh and I am really satisfied with the result.
9.Tell me you favourite album and your favourite band
My favourite album would be the Det Som Engang Var from Burzum. I can’t consider Burzum as a band therefore my favourite band would be Darkthrone.
10.Where are you from?
Athens-Hellas. You?
11.Tell me your opinion about the metal scene in your country
I believe that you’re also a Hellenes…don’t you know what is happening around?
12.What are your plans in the future for the band?
I really don’t know. At the moment we are promoting the “River At Dash Scalding”. For now I can only tell that I have already agreed with the Norwegian Apocalyptic Empire Records and on September the “River At Dash Scalding” will be released in a limited to 500 hand numbered copies, vinyl edition.
As far as it concerns a new album I don’t know when or with which record label would that be. Our contract with Black Lotus has expired and now we are free. Various labels are sending me offers right now…we ‘ll see what will happen.
13.Is metal a way of your life?
Black Metal is a way of life as Black Metal is also a whole attitude towards the society and a philosophy. I believe that the values and principles of heavy metal have faded away long time ago. Everything is for the money now.
14.How do you describe your music?
Pure Black Metal. That simple.
15. If your music were an emotion, what would be?
Sorrow. A word that can take so many explanations.
16.If you had the chance to travel back in time, which period would you
like to visit and why?
I would want to be in the Thermopylaes battle of the ancient Sparta along with the 300 persons that fought by the side of Leonidas.
17.Thanks for your interview and have I forgotten to ask you anything and
you’d like to mention?
I don’t know if you have forgotten to ask me something. If you have…then it’s too late! Anyone that wants more information about Naer Mataron, he/she can visit our website at www.naermataron.cjb.net . That would be all. Thank you for your support! Hail Zeus-Hail Wotan!
