BEJELIT
1.First of all, tell us the history of Bejelit.
Ok, our band born in 2000 when my brother Sandro and the singer Fabio wanted to have an own band to play heavy metal. So found the other members they started to rehearse and to write the first songs…
Then in 2001, the band reached the actual line-up and changed the name into Bejelit. In that period we took the concept about Berserk.
In 2001 we recorded our first demo cd called “Bloodsign” but we didn’t promote it, so we went on composing new stuff ’till June 2002 when we recorded our second demo called “Bones and Evil”. Since that we become a real band and we started to play live and to promote our band.
2.Tell us some details for the demo cd “Bones and Evil”
It’s the union of two demos, the tracks 1,3 and 4 are from the first demo called “Bloodsign” and the others are from the second one.
We recorded everything in a 15 hours work and for the second demo we used Alesis and triggers on my drums to be able to work on my drums sound after I played everything. We decided to record the song “I won’t die everyday” the morning and at afternoon we told to the sound engineer that we wanted to record another song…J
3.This demo is a concept,have you a main idea when you write the songs?
Well, more than a concept it’s just a cd based on some episodes of the cult manga Berserk so there’s no a precise time-line as the comic…We take a single episode or a single character and we speak about itJ
In the first period of the band our songs were influenced by Lovecraft’s novels and by horror movies! So we decided not to change the lyrics of a song like “The Haunter of the Dark” that’s based on Lovecraft, into a Berserk song…We like it as it isJ
4.Which is the procedure when you write the songs?
It’s a difficult question…usually Sandro and Fabio write the melodies and I write the rythmic parts. Of course we arrange our songs togheter so the structure could change a lot of times before to be finished. We usually rehearse a lot to be the most heavy and precise so we’re able to work a lot on our compositions.
5.Bejelit, exists only for two years,have you already play any gig?
Yeah, Bejelit exist only for two years as Bejelit, but we’re a real band since this Semptember, so just 3 monthsJ We played four gigs ’till now but we have more than 8 gigs to be confirmed before the end of January 2003…
Our main goal is to be a “stage” band! We don’t like too much only-studio bands!
6.Do you believe that “Bejelit” is a “good” name for a metal band?
Yeah sure, otherwise we didn’t choose it:D Seriously, we think it’s a good name, because it’s very short, easy to remember, and someways very musically…Well, it’s also a good way to show to a Berserk Fan that our work is based on it!
7.Your influences from the metal scene?
My influences are Helloween, Blind Guardian, Stratovarius but I mean the first period of these bands…about my bandmates I can say that my brother Sandro listen mainly to Children of Bodom and the singer Fabio is a Iron Maiden maniac. Our bass player Giorgio likes Symphony X!
8.Where do you come from?
We come from Arona, a town in the far north-west of Italy, near Switzerland, and all Bejelit members are from here except for our bass player Giorgio, who comes from a little town 20 km south from here.
9.Tell me your opinion about your metal scene in your country
Italy is full of good metal bands, but the problem is that there’s to much clone bands! Everyone wanna be like Rhapsody or Stratovarius…or some bands try to play a too influenced metal to be albe to say “Hey, look at me, I play difficult music so I’m cooooool”J
10.As i know,tell if i am wrong,you have record three demos, have you
planned for another demo or a full length cd?
Well, we recorded just two demos without considering the last recording session for the Running Wild cover, but as you know “Bones and Evil” is the union of two different demos.
We recorded three songs in 2001 and the other three songs in 2002, but we never supported our first demo, so we thought to join them togheter and create a single demo of six songs. You can easily recognize the old songs from the new onesJ We have ready more than 8 new songs and we planned to record another cd in January if we won’t sign a record deal before of courseJ
11.Do you know anything for metal scene in Greece?
No…I know some guys from Greece but just one has a band…his name’s Manos Xanthakis..(I hope I wrote the name right..eheheh you have too difficult namesJ)Anwyay I know that you have a great metal scene full of good bands!!!
12.Your vocalist,Fabio, have worked in other bands?
No. He started singing with this band when it was called Angelfire.
He never sung before, and also he was smoking! So one day he decided to stop smoke and start to sing…a good choice;)
13.Tell me a reason,why someone to buy your cd?
Uhmm..just a reason? We play from our hearts!!!!
14.Tell me you favorite album and your favorite band?
My favourite band is Stratovarius and my favourite album is Dreamspace!
I like old Strato, really dark and quite strange!
15.You are from Italy, a country where a famous vocalist,Ronnie James Dio,
is. Tell me your opinion about him?
I love his voice! He wrote and sung some of the best metal songs of ever!!! He’s really a godJ And the greatest thing is that his voice still be incredible!
16.What are your plans in the future for “Bejelit”?
Yesterday evening we had a great gig near Milano and we recorded the whole gig on HD to be able to put some mp3 on our site, or better to prepare a live demo of BejelitJ Anyway as I told you we’re planning to record another CD in Januray ‘coz we’re composing all day and we have a lot of new stuff ready!!! The style is the same, but a little more aggressive and arranged. No, keyboards again:D We hope to sign a record deal soon…
