No More Free Music In China!

The National Copyright Administration of the People’s Republic of China (NCAC) has announced that online music without copyright should be removed by the end of the month. This could mean the start of the paid-music era in China.
The announcement aims to regulate the digital music market and to wipe out a considerable number of small platforms that are profiting from free music.

Rampant piracy and copyright infringement has had a devastating impact on China’s music industry. It is estimated that in 2015, Chinese owners of copyrighted music attracted only 2% of the industry’s income while this figure stands at 90% in Japan and South Korea.
