Dan Ackroyd and Blues Brothers Records?
Actor Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi’s widow Judy are setting up Blues Brothers Records through an A&R and distribution arrangement with Blue Note Records. Blues Brothers will sign and develop blues artists, with Ackroyd’s multiple blues platforms to be used for promotion, reports Billboard. Blue Note presiden Don Was will handle A&R duties for Blues Brothers Records, Judy Belushi will be the creative director and Blues Brothersmanager Eric Gardner will run the administrative side of the label.
“The music is vibrant,” Aykroyd told the publication. “By working with a first-class producer in Don and using BluesMobile to help sell, there’s a good shot at getting some traction.”
Gardner adds: “Danny has been a beacon for decades for the blues, one of the most challenging [genres] to get into the commercial marketplace.
“In the digital age a lot of labels don’t have the wherewithal or the financing to have strong digital strategies and I think that has led to the paucity of strong blues labels. We’re almost thinking of this as a public service for dedicated blues enthusiasts.”
The label has not made any signings yet and is seeking music and video submissions online.
Ackroyd and Belushi debuted The Blues Brothers on Saturday Night Live in 1978.
