Steve Strange (Visage) dies

Steve Strange has died in a hospital in Egypt aged 55 following a heart attack. He was believed to be on holiday in Sharm-el-Sheikh at the time. Strange was front man of ‘80s pop group Visage and was considered a new romantics pioneer. Visage’s single Fade to Grey reached No.8 in the UK charts in 1980 and topped the charts elsewhere in Europe.

Strange was also the manager of the renowned Blitz Club in Soho where Duran Duran and Culture Club’s careers started off.

Label manager at August Day Recordings, Marc Green, said: “We are extremely saddened to announce that Steve Strange died at 11.15 local time on Thursday 12 February in Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital, Egypt. Steve died in his sleep of heart failure. Steve’s family, band members and friends are all distraught at this sudden news of his untimely death.
