ENUFF Z NUFF – Covered in Words
Interview with Chip Z’Nuff
1. How did you decide to release a covers album?
We decided a covers record would be a nice way to pay respect to some of our influences throughout our career and a new audience that doesn’t know enuff Znuff may recognize s these great songs!
2. Please describe us the process of the recording and the musicians that contributed in this recording.
Most of the record was recorded analog to 2 inch tape, and our record was recorded live with very mininal overdubs which is a very organic approach in this day and age where pro tools is the norm for most groups! Billy Corgan from The Smashing Pumpkins played guitar on cheap tricks ” everything works if you let it” the only other “trick” on this record is that every song was a hit record!
3. Are we going to expect a studio album with new material from the band?
Working on a new record @ Chicago recording company, one of the top studios in north America!
4. How the band faces the current changes in the music industry in terms of technology and royalties share?
Just like everyone else, social media and licencing is the wave of the future!
5. “New Thing” and “Fly High Michelle” have been the most popular songs of the band. How critical was the heavy rotation from MTV for these songs?
Its the reason people still know the band, EZN reached millions because of MTV! Those 2 videos spent almost a year in the top 10 with the biggest bands in the world;
6. Do you accept or reject the term “hair metal” that was given to you by the media?
Call us what you want, just as long as you call us! Lol
7. What kept the band alive all these years?
Hard work, perseverance, realizing that we have nothing to lose and everything to gain by putting out good songs, there’s still tons of opportunities for all artists!
8. The band has faced drug related issues. Would you like to comment on that and let us know how these problems affect the status of the band?
Substance abuse always shortens the run but rewards some artist with great songs, its a double edge sword, be careful what you wish for in life!
9. What is the most important sacrifice that you did for your music career?
Unfortunately leaving friends and family to per sue my musical career and dedicating my time to making records and touring!
10. What are the challenges that you face by being a professional musician in 2014?
The same as everyone else, staying relevant in a time were there is to much product and not enough demand, I wish everyone well in this cesspool we call the business of music, thank you for your support! Chip
