Anti-Nickelback campaign to keep band out of London

Inspired by the recent spate of successful Kickstart campaigning by Foo Fighter fans, a music fan has begun his own crowdfunding effort to keep Nickelback out of London.Renowned for their ground-breaking work on songs such as ‘Something In Your Mouth’ and ‘Rockstar’, Nickelback are due to unleash their eighth studio album on the world by November of this year.

Although the band, fronted by Chad Kroeger, do not have any scheduled tour dates in the capital, Craig Mandell hopes to raise $1000 (£626) to make sure that it stays that way.

On the Kickstarter page – titled ‘Don’t Let Nickel Back’ – Mandell, a friend of the men who successfully brought Foo Fighters to Richmond, Virginia in September, explains his plan.

“With your help, we can ensure that the band do not schedule any gigs here, do not attempt to come here – nor even phone here,” he has written.

“Just imagine, thousands – perhaps tens of thousands of music lovers – all not witnessing an exclusive concert by Nickelback in London. It will be glorious. Legendary.”

Mr Mandell gave his reasons for a Nickelback Kickstarter campaign page in an FAQ section, saying that the band create “unlistenable music”.
Anyone who contributes to the scheme will have an email sent on their behalf to Nickelback’s management, with the severity of the message in the email dependent on how much money is donated.

The crowdfunding campaign to bring Foo Fighters to Birmingham reached its target of £150,000 with 53 days still left to go.
Mandell has given himself until 3 November to raise the funds. At the time of writing he had two backers pledging a grand total of $6.

Nickelback did not respond to a request for comment at the time of writing.
