KRAGENS
1. First of all, tell us the history of “Kragens”
Kragens was born at the end of 2000 in Nice. Founded by Cedric Sellier Stutters, Thorium ) and Ludwig Laperche, the band’s two guitarists, they were later joined by Renaud Espeche ( Demon Eyes, Lynx, both famous french metal bands from the eighties). The musical identity of the band was quickly established : powerfully effective heavy metal pieces, with a hint of trash and backed up by melodic or hard core vocals and a vertuoso guitar solos. Their style was strengthened by the arrival of Olivier Gavelle on drums Ace, Dirty Side, Tribal, Slam, famous bands too) and Denis Malek on bass Lynx, Carolyn Monroe). Live, several concerts at Tapas, Papparazi and the Onyx and their competition victory concert at Niels, confirmed the group as the new hope of Nice’s heavy metal scene.
2.Tell us some details for the demo cd “Kragens”
Our live success pushed us to record a four tracks cd.The media’s reception was excellent, and reviews in French magazines as Hard Rock Mag, Hard ‘n Heavy and Metallian magazines placed the group as France’s new hope. Fanzines and Webzines also became involved and 64 radio stations are already playing extracts even abroad, in germany, greece and italy. This demo was recorded in our car garage and mixed in a home studio.
3. Is there any feedback from the audience about the demo cd till now ?
Yes, as i said above, the media reception was great, also in greece. We sold
a lot of pieces.
4. Which is the procedure when you write the songs?
We fight each other, and the stronger wins! No, the base come always from the guitar player, the drums and bass are arranged, and then come the singing melody and the lyrics which depends of my mood.
5. Have you already played any gig?
We had all a rich experience of live music with our last bands, some guys from the band play for 20 years! With Kragens, this experience give us a strenght rarely compared in france. We are strong, brutal but very clear. Our sound is always great, that come from our way of playing metal very clean. actually we play one time a month in France.
6.Your influences from the metal scene?
We have so many inflences, it’s impossible to list! some of them : Rammstein, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Dio, Pantera, Stratovarius, Prong, Metallica…
7.Tell me you favorite album and your favorite band
For me (I’m renaud the singer) i listen a lot Nevermore, ” a deadly heart in a deadly world”
8. Where do you come from?
From France, of course, the best fuckers (with greek men of course!)
9. Tell me your opinion about the metal scene in your country
I think these are the best years for the french scene, a lot of very good bands, with technical talent and inspiration.
10. What are your plans in the future for “Kragens”?
we are now preparing our first album, record in april and mix in june 2003. It will be a fuckin good metal album!
11 .Is metal a way of your life?
Yes , i wrote one of our best song about that, called the “metal hunter”!
12.I found you through internet, do you think that the net can replace the
old underground days?
No, it’s just one more tool for us to use, faster, and that get people more
closer.
