‘Christine McVie will be rejoining Fleetwood Mac,’ says Mick Fleetwood

“This is the worst kept secret there is, but Christine McVie will be rejoining Fleetwood Mac,” Mick Fleetwood told a Hawaii audience this week, breaking the news that fans had been long awaiting. The statement, reported on the website Consequence of Sound, follows McVie’s performance with the band last September in London, which fuelled a flurry of reunion rumours. According to the website Fleetwood Mac News, band members Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham also confirmed to audiences at the group’s Las Vegas new-year shows that they would be touring again in 2014, potentially with Christine McVie.

After leaving Fleetwood Mac in 1998, McVie joined the band on stage at the O2 arena in London in September 2013 for a rendition of Don’t Stop. “It was amazing, like I’d never left. I climbed back on there again and there they were, the same old faces on stage,” she told the Guardian last November.

McVie, who had been out of the spotlight since her last solo album in 2004, described herself in that interview as having been “music’d out” before leaving the band. She said that she would be “delighted” to rejoin at some stage, but added: “It’s a long way down that path if it ever were to happen.”

She said that her former husband, the Fleetwood Mac bassist John McVie, who had been diagnosed with cancer, would have to “get well first”, adding, “so it hasn’t been talked about. We’ll have to wait and see.

“I like being with the band, the whole idea of playing music with them. I miss them all. If they were to ask me, I would probably be very delighted.”

Following his illness, John McVie also returned to the stage with Fleetwood Mac in the band’s new-year shows.
