Liam Gallagher brands Robbie Williams an ‘idiot’

Liam Gallagher has reignited an old feud by calling Robbie Williams an “idiot” and a “clown”.

It almost feels like the Nineties again. Liam Gallagher has launched an expletive-ridden verbal attack on Robbie Williams, reigniting a feud that has been simmering for years.

On the same night that Gallagher’s band, Beady Eye, played the 1,500-capacity Ritz in Manchester, the former Oasis frontman branded the Take That singer an “idiot” and claimed that “any f—–g clown” could play at Manchester City’s 60,000 seat Etihad Stadium, where Williams has just performed the second of four sold out shows.

Interviewed on BBC Radio 5 Live, Gallagher said: “It’s a small gig. Beady Eye ain’t a big band.

“Everyone thinks we’re going to announce big f—–g stadiums. [The Ritz]’s the level we’re at and we’ll stay at that until you pull your f—–g finger out and buy the f—–g records.”

In reference to Williams, the lifelong Manchester City fan added: “We should be playing the Etihad three nights, not some f—–g fat f—–g idiot. It could be any f—–g clown.

“I think it’s a shame that he’s doing three nights and a band like us are doing one night in the Ritz. Poor, mate. It’s not about him, it’s people in general. But it’s about f—-g him, just in case you think I’m scared or something.”

He also described Beady Eye as a “proper live band” but claimed that “the bulls–t is winning”.

The pair have a long history of animosity that culminated in Williams challenging Gallagher to a fight at the Brit Awards in 2000. This came after Liam’s brother, Noel, had described Williams as “that fat dancer from Take That”.

Beady Eye’s second album, BE, topped the UK Record Store chart this week but was met with a mixed critical reaction, The Telegraph’s Neil McCormick describing it as “lyrically quite stupid and melodically banal”.
