Grammy-Winning Blues Rock Singer Ben Harper Signs Publishing Agreement With BMG

Grammy-winning songwriter, singer and guitarist Ben Harper has signed an exclusive, worldwide co-publishing agreement with BMG Chrysalis US.

Harper has been named one of the most innovative modern bluesmen and is internationally recognized for his live performances and distinguished songwriting craft.

The songwriter took home Grammys in 2004 for Best Pop Instrumental Performance for ’11th Commandment’ and Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album for his collaboration with the Blind Boys of Alabama on an album of gospel songs, There Will Be a Light. Featuring original songs and covers, the disc reached Number One on Billboard’s gospel albums chart.

For his twelfth studio album, Harper collaborated with critically acclaimed blues artist Charlie Musselwhite to release Get Up in January 2013. With this project, the duo, who first worked together with legendary blues guitarist John Lee Hooker in 1997, explore a range of blues textures.

“Get Up showcases a special musical chemistry between two legendary artists who complement each other’s unique talent and style while pushing artistic boundaries,” said Jill Pedone, Creative Director at BMG Chrysalis US. “It is a rare opportunity to work with a songwriter such as Ben who flourishes with any musical genre.”

Harper added: “I look forward to working with BMG. They have an incredible roster that I’m proud to be a part of. Laurent Hubert and his team are real leaders and innovators in the music publishing space, which is such an important part of an artist’s career.”
