Red Hot Chili Peppers to begin work on new album in September

Red Hot Chili Peppers will begin work on their next album in September, drummer Chad Smith has confirmed. The band, who released their last album ‘I’m With You’ in 2011, will regroup later this year with a view to developing ideas and sketches for songs they currently have into something that can be recorded. Speaking to Billboard, Smith says: “We’re probably looking at getting together in September and getting on a roll and starting to write songs for the next record,” Smith tells Billboard. “We always have little ideas percolating in jams and rehearsal warm-ups and soundchecks and gigs.

Explaining how the hugely successful band write songs, Smith continues: “Sometimes we bust into stuff… We just kind of play whatever, so we always have those little tidbits. But we don’t have any fully-formed songs until the four of us get in a room together. That’s when the real writing process starts. So, yeah, we’re looking at the fall.”

The band, who have been touring non-stop for the last year and a half and recently headlined the Coachella Festival in California, also played for the Dalai Lama during his visit to Maitripa College in Portland, Oregon on May 11 as part of the Dalai Lama Environmental Summit.

Back in February, the band unveiled the latest track in the set of 18 new singles they are slowly releasing to fans via their website. The sixth of nine instalments, you can hear the eight-minute long ‘In Love Dying’ here. All of the tracks were written and recorded while touring their 10th studio album ‘I’m With You’.
