Nicolas Willot – One of those dreams

‘One of Those Dreams’ opens with atmospheric rock guitars and melodic vocals, while romantic and slightly playful piano harmonies bring a softer touch to the arrangement. As the song progresses, a clearly 1970s atmosphere unfolds, bringing to mind the more dreamy and progressive side of bands such as Pink Floyd and Pavlov’s Dog. The interaction between the instruments feels very authentic, creating a layered sound that prioritises atmosphere and mood over conventional song structure. At around the 3:23 mark, the guitars take on a David Gilmour-inspired character, leading into an expressive solo that slowly becomes the centrepiece of the track. Rather than building up to a big climax, the guitar allows the song to slowly fade out, maintaining the same dreamy mood established at the beginning. The piano remains an important part of this atmosphere, providing gentle harmonic movement beneath the guitars. Interestingly, there are no conventional lyrics. Instead, the vocals are used like an additional instrument, creating beautiful wordless harmonies that become part of the arrangement. This works particularly well with the atmospheric production, giving ‘One of Those Dreams’ the feeling of a musical daydream rather than a traditional song with lyrics. It is a beautiful, nostalgic piece that captures the spirit of 1970s progressive and psychedelic rock.
