Sting extends Sony/ATV deal

Sony/ATV has extended an administration agreement with Sting dating backing more than a decade and a half.

The former Police frontman initially inked a deal with what was separately EMI Music Publishing back in 1997. Now that the relationship has been lengthened further in a new deal described as a “long-term” extension and announced by Sony/ATV chairman and CEO Marty Bandier whose company headed a consortium takeover of EMI Publishing last year.

The deal covers songs from Sting’s Police days such as Every Breath You Take, Walking On The Moon and Roxanne, solo career works including Fields Of Gold and If I Ever Lose My Faith In You and also the likes of the Oscar-nominated You Will Be My Ain True Love from the award-winning film Cold Mountain and Until from Kate & Leopold.

Bandier, who was running EMI Publishing when the original deal was struck in 1997, said: “Sting is one of the world’s greatest living songwriters. He is an award-winning artist and his distinct musical style makes him beloved by a global audience. We are delighted to continue our relationship with Sting for many years to come.”
