Suited and Booted – Never Too Old To Thrust
The music begins with an art-pop look that instantly recalls Talking Heads’ eccentric sophistication, while the vocal phrasing sometimes recalls The Fall’s distinctive approach. An obvious no wave attitude dominates the song, supported by playful pop elements that never sacrifice technical accuracy. The musicianship is precise and innovative, keeping the arrangement interesting while continuously bringing small changes and unexpected sounds. The groove is strongly grounded in a ’80s-inspired sound, enhanced by colourful synth layers and at times vocal melodies recreating the melodic beauty of 1960s music. These contrasting components create a vibrant but somewhat satirical atmosphere, giving the music its own individuality. Around 1:45, the rhythm transitions to a hip-hop-inspired tempo, adding an unexpected dimension while maintaining its obvious art-pop identity. One of the song’s strongest characteristics is its attention to detail. The Funky guitar lines confidently drive the rhythm, combining well with the different drum patterns and dynamic arrangement. Instead of providing rush of pleasure, “Never Too Old To Thrust” encourages attentive listening, exposing new audio details with every play. Its creative songwriting, stylistic diversity, and magnetic groove make it a refreshing and entertaining piece of modern art pop, characterised by both inventiveness and talent.
