Tomorrow’s Lie – Severed
Severed begins with a dramatic synthesiser introduction that creates an enigmatic atmosphere before switching to its main theme. The song features a progressive metal style similar to Queensrÿche’s in the late 1980s and early 1990s, as well as melodic hard rock elements. The combination produces a dynamic piece that strikes a balance between technical virtuosity and catchy melodies. The vocals take a storytelling technique that complements the dramatic character of the composition, guiding the listener through the song’s different phases. Around 2:47, the expressive bass lines take the focus, followed by a teasing solo that contributes to the track’s emotions. The arrangement flows easily, with each segment building on the last and keeping the listener engaged altogether. The production precisely shows the band’s musical concept, although a little more refinement in mastering would improve the listening experience. Bringing certain elements, particularly some of the guitar sections, forward in the mix would increase the strength and clarity. However, Severed stands out as an interesting progressive metal track with good songwriting, fascinating storyline, and plenty of distinctive musical concepts.
