The Refusers – Buck The System
Buck The System begins with a powerful mix of punk rock and classic rock, creating a pure, dynamic mood. Inspired by pub rock, punk, and AC/DC’s hard-hitting attitude, the song is driven by a strong drumbeat and a sharp, catchy guitar riff. There are also aspects of Slade in the songwriting, and the vocal style represents the rebellious energy and attitude that define classic punk. Although the guitars remain the main driving force through the song, soft, airy synthesisers offer a sense of psychedelic nostalgia from the late 1960s, providing an unexpected dimension to the generally plain rock sound. The production focuses on the powerful riff, allowing the band’s tight performance and lively groove to cut through. Buck The System is essentially a guitar-driven anthem that enthusiastically embraces 1970s rock traditions while pushing them with punk spirit. Its distinctive riffs, no-nonsense attitude, and classic songwriting combine to produce a unique sound that feels authentic. Fans of riff-driven rock with a rebellious spirit will find enough to like here.
