Wooden Overcoat – Finally Arrived

Wooden Overcoat is the musical project of multi-instrumentalist Brant Hajek, who returned to music after a hiatus and revisited pieces he wrote in his late teens. According to Hajek, “Finally Arrived” explores a variety of subjects, including isolation from social media, personal sadness, relationship challenges, and the illusions of fame and success. The song begins with ethereal, reverb-heavy acoustic and electric guitar sounds that create a spaced-out shoegaze-inspired vibe. The ethereal musical range recalls inspirations such as Spiritualised, while vocal harmonies gently recall The Beatles’ melodic style. The slow tempo creates a hypnotic and thoughtful atmosphere, allowing the music to develop in a dreamy, almost “unrealistic” movement. Visually, the accompanying video (created by Francesca Bonci) enhances the track’s psychedelic character by combining bizarre colour palettes and visuals nostalgic of early Pink Floyd. This mix of sound and graphics emphasises the song’s peaceful and hypnotic characteristics, resulting in an overall artistic experience that nostalgic and spiritually engaging. From around 3:35 till the finale, the piece changes to a longer instrumental section. Electric guitars take center stage, offering melodic lines filled with psychedelic garage rock and harmonies characteristic of the 1960s. The final result is a slow progression to a nostalgic, sentimental conclusion in which the guitar work carries the feelings of the piece without the assistance of vocals.
