Gozd – Birch
Gozd, formed in 2019 in Wrocław, Poland by the Gozdek brothers, guitarist Kuba and drummer Marek, creates deep instrumental soundscapes ranging from dark and atmospheric styles. The music begins with sluggish, vibrating electric bass rhythms that lay the basis for a truly melancholy atmosphere. As the drums move at a slow tempo, ethereal electric guitars come out, typical of Pink Floyd’s spaced-out settings. At the same time, there are obvious elements of post-rock dynamics and the dark, heavy presence associated with the Electric Wizard. What makes “Birch” so intriguing is its dynamic evolution. The composition moves smoothly between space rock mess, doom-inspired heaviness, and post-rock melancholy, never falling into a single identity. Instead, it constantly changes, drawing the listener through waves of sound that are intense. The end result is a tremendous instrumental experience that is simultaneously peaceful and powerful, fragile and crushing. “Birch” does not rely on vocals to express emotions; its power is that it manages to create a mood and tension only through music.
