Talnak – Crawling Void
The music begins with strange, atmospheric sounds that create a sad and frightening atmosphere before bursting into demonic black metal based strongly in the early 1990s Norwegian movement. From the very first blast, the aggression is obvious and tough, with constant riffs and a chilly energy that characterises the song’s fundamental spirit. The overall atmosphere achieves a mix between chaos and structure, resulting in a soundtrack that seems powerful and intentional rather than chaotic. The drumming dominates the audio mix, being incredibly technical, loud, and driving the composition with cruel precision. As the vocals join the mix, the influence of legendary bands like Immortal becomes obvious, while the more epic parts recall Primordial in terms of tempo and dramatic heaviness. Unlike many black metal releases, the vocals are not excessively distorted, allowing the vocals to stand out while offering drama without crushing the backing music. Under the black metal base, there are strong thrash metal elements, and the song’s speed and rage at times bring back early 1980s hardcore punk, offering a raw element to the overall attack. From a production aspect, “Crawling Void” is surprisingly well-balanced for a black metal song. The mastering avoids unnecessary chaos, resulting in a clear and strong mix with individual performances loud and clear. This transparency enhances the significance of the fast tempos and complex drumming, proving that extremes do not have to come at the sacrifice of clarity. Overall, the track is a powerful and disciplined take on 1990s-inspired black metal, mixing brutality, speed, and precision to create an aggressive message.
