Claude9 – Enough is Enough
Claude9’s “Enough is Enough” is a wonderful mix of dub, electronica, and cosmic psychedelia, topped off by Jorja Chalmers’ familiar saxophone. From the beginning, the song creates a spaced-out atmosphere, with dub-inspired basslines vibrating under soft synth sounds, and Chalmers’ sax cutting through the haze with a bizarre, sentimental impact that recalls Hawkwind’s cosmic explorations from the 1970s. The vocals, filtered through a vocoder, take on an unusual alien character that fits perfectly with the song’s interstellar atmosphere. Rather than grounding the listener, the artificial tone enhances the track’s perception of being raised above earthly problems, creating an odd but pleasing contrast with the protest-driven lyrics. The message is clear and urgent: “People in the streets / They can’t wait any longer / They say enough is enough.” It’s a call for justice, rage compressed into a chorus that sounds futuristic. The dub-heavy grooves encourage movement; there’s a dancefloor attraction here, but it’s filled with battle and restless spirit. “Enough is Enough” is both highly political and musically moving, a protest song disguised as a cosmic dance anthem.
