Desu Taem – That!

Desu Taem’s track That! begins with a raw grunge sound constructed with hammering drums, a deep bassline, and dark storytelling vocals that creates an enigmatic atmosphere. Around the 0:40 mark, the track changes momentum, revealing a heavier structure rooted in Sabbath-style distortion. The riffs have a classic doom-metal edge, but the overall roughness and freedom lean toward riff-driven grunge, recalling the spirit of early Mudhoney. The guitars stand out with a raw energy that underlies the music in underground authenticity. That! is fascinating because it finds a balance between two eras of heaviness: Black Sabbath’s frightening heaviness in their early years and the raw, garage-born grunge sound of the 1990s. The end effect is a track that sounds nostalgic and surprisingly primitive, ideal for listeners who enjoy music that borders doom and grunge without fitting completely into either category. That! also stands out for its atmosphere, which is dark, dramatic, and almost cinematic in rhythm. The vocals, which are more spoken than sung, enhance the sense of anxiety, as if the listener has been drawn into a story rather than a song. When combined with the crushing riffs and constant rhythm section, the song creates its own mood.
