Sicky – I’m Happy If You’re Happy
Mick Butler’s solo project SICKY provides a pleasantly strange but professional track with “I’m Happy If You’re Happy.” The song, which features Jen Bone on double bass and dedicated backing vocals from Lily and Scarlet, reflects an unusual, seductive vibe that is exciting and funky. The song begins with unusual percussion sounds accompanied by a jazzy double bass, creating an entertaining and delightful mood. As Butler’s melodic vocals arrive in the mix, the song changes into a sound familiar with Britpop superstars like Supergrass and Blur, with additional elements of 1960s Beatles-type vocal harmonies. The arrangement is both nostalgic and innovative, with the double bass leading the rhythm through an organic style, avoiding the use of drum machines or excessively polished production. The use of backing vocals and “random noises” adds a dimension of playfulness to the song, improving its character and making the recording feel real and in someway experimental. I’m Happy If You’re Happy is an adventurous pop song that combines elegance and interesting experimentation.
