Alice’s “Alien” is a strong, atmospheric trip into a dark sci-fi story, driven by an effective mix of metal, hard rock, and prog dynamics. The song begins with weird, enigmatic sounds that set up an anxious tone, building gradually up until guitars played by Christian Lorson and Bartu Karagöz fade in. The early panning effects create depth, making the listening experience feel deep and theatrical, as if you’re entering an alien dimension. Bianca Winderlich’s vocals float with an ethereal but angry tone reminding of Epica’s sound, creating a unique contrast to the hard music. Her voice is spooky but powerful, perfectly suited with the extraterrestrial abduction story worked within the lyrics. The lyrics themselves are dark and controversial describing a disturbing meeting with “uniformed men” in “Area 51” and looking into themes of monitoring, solitary confinement and an urgent desire for relief. The band’s style combines inspirations from prog rock, a variety of dynamics between peaceful and fast moments, as well as the nu-metal edge of bands like Otep, which gives the music real power. What distinguishes “Alien” is its production, which has a strong “rock “edge that keeps the song easily accessible without the overpowering distortion common in metal. This balanced mastering expands the song’s attraction, providing it an engaging listen for both metal and rock fans.
