Yannick Fortin – Rêve

Yannick Fortin’s “Rêve” is a piece that combines elements of hard rock, classic rock, and synthesizers inspired by the 1980s. The song explores deep serious themes of love and sacrifice, and how these feelings may either save or kill us—an idea that is represented in both the lyrics and musical production. The song starts with a faded-in guitar riff with a strong rock edge, creating a nostalgic tone nostalgic of 1970s rock. This foundation is soon joined by French vocals, which provide an interesting contrast to the musical background. The vocal performance is unique, nevertheless it may benefit from extra effects to properly match the song’s atmospheric synthesizers, which have a strong AOR style. The guitars are strong throughout the tune, integrating well with the production. Their placement in the mix is outstanding giving the song a balanced sound. The electric guitar solo at 2:32 is a highlight, showing excellent playing that boosts the track’s energy and offers a pleasing finale. Overall, “Rêve” achieves a mix between classic and up-to-date inspirations, resulting in an enjoyable listening experience. With a few modifications, particularly to the vocal effects, the music may sound even more coherent. Nonetheless, it is a strong composition that focuses on the emotional issues of love and sacrifice through the kaleidoscope of melodic rock music.
