Simon Hodges – Sometimes I Can’t Get Going When I First Wake Up In The Morning

Simon Hodges’ song “Sometimes I Can’t Get Going When I First Wake Up In The Morning” perfectly expresses the sluggish and contemplative mindset many of us have at the start of the day. The song begins with fuzzy guitar tones that quickly draw you in, providing a sense of raw, unfiltered enthusiasm. When the voices appear, the guitar sound clears, producing a  clean melody that contrasts with the initial haze. Hodges’ vocals have a carefree, nostalgic air that recalls the atmosphere of 1990s Britpop, with elements of The Smiths’ reflective sorrow. There’s also a hint of Americana in the music, providing it a broader, more accessible flavor. This combination of influences results in a rich, layered sound that is pleasantly unique. The tension grows as the song proceeds, with the music rising to match the emotional weight of the words, wonderfully expressing the effort of getting out of bed and face the day. It’s a song that speaks to me deeply, especially when getting out of bed in the morning seems impossible.
