Wild Remedy – Songs From Home

On their EP “Songs From Home,” Canadian indie pop trio Wild Remedy—Amy Russett, Colleen Robertson, and Shay Mahoney—brings an uplifting and energetic folk-influenced sound. This EP’s tracks all capture distinct emotional worlds and show the band’s ability to combine up-to-date indie vibes with acoustic elements.

What I Did Find: “What I Did Find” has an energetic indie folk vibe as it opens the EP. The song’s semi-acoustic composition and ethereal vocals successfully express the promise and enthusiasm of youth. The song’s 3:18 change to an almost a cappella portion emphasizes the singer’s skill and provides the song a more personal, raw vibe. The refrain, which sums up the ideas of development and perseverance in the lyrics, is excellent: “What I did find was worth all the things I had to leave behind.”

Home Song: The fascinating acoustic guitar opening of “Home Song” creates a folky and cheerful mood. The percussion builds in intensity at 1:14 of the song, creating an energetic aspect that drives the song forward. The song keeps its infectious folk feel until 1:36, when the background vocalists add a hint of punk rock back vocals, a la The Runaways. This song creates a positive listening experience by balancing its upbeat feeling with its meaningful lyrics.

Take The Punches: “Take The Punches” keeps the acoustic pattern but adds a dance beat that makes the song lean more toward pop. At its core, the folk arrangement maintains its fundamental simplicity. The lyrics offer comforting advice and encouragement, with lines like, “So take the punches as they come. The future is anxious on its own. Crystal balls aren’t made of stone.”

Wild Remedy: The title track, “Wild Remedy,” has a retro vibe that harkens back to the 1960s. This ballad features soft, relaxed acoustic tones and melodic vocal lines that are both nostalgic and comforting. The lyrics speak of support and healing, with a chorus that reassures relaxation:”When your heart breaks, I’ll pick up every piece.”

Little Me: “Little Me” closes the EP with emotional resonance. This ballad’s acoustic arrangement underpins moving lyrics that reveal a sense of melancholic euphoria, acting as a personal catharsis for the listener. The song deals with themes of struggle and hope, encapsulated in lines like, “We all need hope inside the darkness, we all need air when we can’t breathe.”
