Quality Vs Quantity of New Music
When the veterans of music are getting prepared to retire, we are desperately looking for the next big thing. Then we realize that there are no new rock stars around to replace the old ones. Does this mean that there is not any new music that worth listening? Absolutely not….
The problem is that currently there are more sources of music information than you can handle. Back in the old days less music magazines existed and all of them were promoting the same bands. So if your management had access to the chief editors of these publications, then the next day you were a rock star regardless if there were better bands than yours out in the streets! The key persons in media made the dumbest persons more important than they could ever imagine.
Nowadays, internet is the medium that gives you access to publicity without checking if you really deserve these 15 clicks of internet’s fame. There are thousands of music blogs, music magazines, music social media that could promote your music for free. While this is good for the bands it may end up as a bad choice for the music fans. The quantity of music information that they receive in a daily basis make them confused. If they download tons of music everyday then how easy is to remember that they found out a great artist a couple of days ago?
The bottom point for older people that grew up by reading in magazines about their favorite rock stars, is that your next Paul Stanley is here but is just a few clicks away…You may know him but the problem is that in a couple of days you will find another one! So do not protest about quality in new music but just make sure that you can handle the quantity of new music.
