Mad Painter – Illusion

A brand-new Boston-area band called Mad Painter has its roots in the 1970s melodic rock movement. It is composed of four individuals with incredibly diverse backgrounds. Alex Gitlin, the concept’s writer and inventor, is at the heart of Mad Painter. Bassist Kenne Highland, a true veteran of the Boston rock scene (ex-Gizmos, Hopelessly Obscure, Johnny & The Jumper Cables, Africa Corps), drummer Al Hendry (Bubba Loaf, Tokyo Tramps), and the newest addition, guitarist Al Naha (Thighscrapers), who plays with Kenne in Kenne Highland Airforce, provide him with expert support. In various configurations and formats, they have played in numerous locations in the Boston region. Mad Painter’s “Illusion” takes listeners on a nostalgic journey back to the golden era of classic rock, drawing influences from bands like Uriah Heep and Wishbone Ash. With heavy use of 1970s synths and classic rock guitars, the track embodies the spirit of the genre while introducing its own musical concept. While the song showcases great potential, it is worth noting that the audio production could benefit from further treatment to fully realize its vision. “Illusion” immediately immerses the listener in a vintage soundscape, with swirling synths and intricate guitar melodies transporting us back to the heyday of classic rock. The track successfully captures the essence of the era, combining catchy riffs, soaring vocal lines, and dynamic drumming to create an atmosphere that harkens back to the bands that inspired it. The fusion of classic rock guitars and 1970s synths is a highlight of “Illusion.” The guitars, reminiscent of iconic rock acts, deliver soulful solos and energetic rhythms that inject an infectious energy into the track. The use of synths adds depth and texture, providing a nostalgic backdrop that further enhances the song’s vintage charm. Mad Painter’s ability to weave these elements together showcases their understanding of the classic rock sound and their passion for the genre. However, as mentioned, the audio production of “Illusion” would benefit from some further treatment. While the musical concept is solid, certain aspects of the production feel underdeveloped. The mix could be refined to allow each instrument to shine through clearly, ensuring that the intricate guitar work and synth layers don’t get lost in the overall sound. Additionally, attention to the mastering process could help bring out the full potential of the track, enhancing its impact and creating a more polished and professional listening experience. Despite the production aspects that could be improved, “Illusion” remains a captivating classic rock track with immense potential. Its musical concept is compelling, and Mad Painter’s homage to bands like Uriah Heep and Wishbone Ash is evident throughout. The track successfully captures the essence of the era, inviting listeners to relish in the nostalgia of classic rock while presenting their own unique spin on the genre.
