The Layman Preachers – Walk on the Wildside (Track Review)

This is an unusual cover of the famous track by Lou Reed, which is performed by the band The Layman Preachers. The track begins as an acoustic take with guitar and piano and a mysterious, almost Avant-garde atmosphere. The track changes moods and dynamics, so it becomes harder or softer again, and the vocal parts consist of a duet between a woman and a man who seems to come from the Metal side of music due to the raw tone and his singing style. Here, things become more complex since this duet is not the usual one that we are used to. I would say that its main concept is the antithesis between the two voices and not the harmonious result or the embedded melody. To that end, it is a “take it or leave it” choice, but I would say that listen first and decide then. This is a chance to experience Lou Reed’s music from an Avant-garde perspective, so listen carefully and make your choice.
