Dea Matrona an electrified rock trio from Belfast!
Dea Matrona are a rock trio from Belfast who formed in 2018, their mutual love of classic rock and bands such as Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, sparked a musical chemistry between the three that continues to blossom into their own originals. The group have an incredible audience and community on YouTube and Facebook, stemming from their breathtaking renditions of classic rock covers while busking on the streets of Belfast.
Dea Matrona was formed in Belfast by school friends Mollie McGinn (21) and Orlaith Forsythe (20). Mollie’s little sister Mamie (17) was drafted in to play drums. Multi-talented Mollie and Orlaith swap roles as vocalists, lead guitar and bass player.
The band developed their electrifying act by harnessing the energy of classic rock legends like Cream, Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac and added influences from the likes of Joan Jett and Debbie Harry. With their hard hitting riffs and musical intensity they have established a rare, sensational sound – gritty and real but loaded with melody and style.
The wave of support started through the band’s busking videos (‘Oh Well’ Fleetwood Mac cover in Dec 2020 now has over 2m views). They now have an online community of 200,000 followers and a total of over 5.7 million views on YouTube. Through this the band have honed their astonishing live skills and now perform to packed out rooms all over their native Ireland and the UK.
The band also write and play their own songs which have a seventies rock vibe with a modern twist. These include ‘Make You My Star’ which was performed on the Late Late Show in March 2021.
The new single ‘Stamp On It’ was produced by the girls themselves and mastered by Jon Astley (The Who, Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney).
“We are so excited for everyone to hear ‘Stamp On It’, it’s a tune that needs to be played loud. We’re really looking forward to playing it live” Orláith said of their latest venture.
“This track has a real feel-good vibe that is so fun to play. It’s our favourite track to date and we just can’t wait for people to hear it and blast it out loud in their cars this summer.”
Voted ‘Most Promising Act 2021’ in Hot Press Magazine earlier this year (a public vote), Dea Matrona’s radiant talent, astounding live show and songs with great hooks, means that there’s no limit to what this band will achieve.
