The band was formed in 1993 when four cellists, Eicca Toppinen, Paavo  L\u00f6tj\u00f6nen, Max Lilja, and Antero Manninen started playing Metallica covers  together.   <!--more-->  <br \/>In 1996, they released their acclaimed, debut studio album,  Plays Metallica by Four Cellos, which consisted solely of Metallica covers  played on cellos. To date Apocalyptica have released 7 studio albums, the latest  of which, 7th Symphony came out in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Apocalyptica and PledgeMusic  have now joined forces to offer the bands fans the chance to acquire an  exclusive new photobook, which documents the bands journey through more than  1,000 live shows in over 50 countries alongside countless stages, backstage  areas and extraordinary encounters in all parts of the world. The photographer  and band confidante Ville-Akseli Juurikkala, accompanied the band for several  years, capturing the most beautiful, exciting and unexpected moments of their  7th Symphony Tour. <\/p>\n<p>Pledgers to this new campaign will automatically  receive an e-version of the new photobook direct to their email account. This  e-version contains exclusive content not available in the print edition of the  book.
