And that&#8217;s just the way CEO Jeff Bezos likes it. In fact, according to an estimate from Goldman analyst James Mitchell, Amazon&#8217;s capital expenditures will top <strong>$900 million this year alone<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The trickle-down into music seems unmistakeable. \u00a0The\u00a0company is always slashing-and-burning the cost of MP3s, and frequently trading losses for market share. \u00a0But the critical question is whether discounting MP3s and grabbing share against iTunes counts as innovation. \u00a0Meanwhile, Amazon&#8217;s consumer-facing Cloud Drive may <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalmusicnews.com\/stories\/041911amazon\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">simply be overpriced<\/span><\/span><\/a>, especially given the gargantuan collections of many music fans.<\/p>\n<p>But this is one company that could &#8216;figure things out,&#8217; and Bezos isn&#8217;t shy about the approach &#8211; not one bit. \u00a0&#8220;Invention is in our DNA and technology is the fundamental tool we wield to evolve and improve every aspect of the experience we provide our customers,&#8221; Bezos <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/why-i-jeff-bezos-keep-spending-billions-on-amazon-rd-2011-4#ixzz1KkOZcHlF\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">wrote shareholders<\/span><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Music wasn&#8217;t mentioned in the wordy address &#8211; at least not directly &#8211; though the timing was a bit awkward. \u00a0Amazon Web Services just survived a huge outage last week, and the company has now admitted a small loss in customer data\u00a0(that is, 0.07%). \u00a0Which sounds like nothing, unless it&#8217;s<strong> your<\/strong> data we&#8217;re talking about. \u00a0&#8220;The advances in data management developed by Amazon engineers have been the starting point for the architectures underneath the cloud storage and data management services offered by Amazon Web Services (AWS),&#8221; Bezos explained.<\/p>\n<p>Source: Digital Music News<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you think Amazon is overspending on their music strategy, you&#8217;re right.
