Kyle Falconer today releases video for 2nd<\/sup> single \u2018Family Tree\u2019, to coincide with Fathers Day and show documents footage following Kyle and his young family around as they holiday in Thailand.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The video was directed <\/a>by close friend Conor Berry. \u2018Family Tree\u2019 is arguably the song that unites the album – and the nearest blend of\u00a0The View\u2019s\u00a0rambunctious anthems with\u00a0Falconer\u2019s more reflective solo songwriting.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m putting bottles of whisky and vodka behind me,\u201d\u00a0he sings in possibly the album\u2019s most immediately engrossing melody,\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m working on the family tree.\u201d Although the song commences in a dark place, it\u2019s fitting that the life-affirming singalong chorus reflects\u00a0Falconer\u2019s\u00a0own progress too.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n After five hit albums, a\u00a0Mercury Prize\u00a0nomination and countless sold-out shows with\u00a0The View, the band\u2019s frontman\u00a0Kyle Falconer\u00a0will release his debut album\u00a0\u2018No Thank You\u2019\u00a0on\u00a0July 27th\u00a0on\u00a0Riverman Records.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n A raw and brutally honest collection of songs, much of\u00a0\u2018No Thank You\u2019\u00a0finds\u00a0Falconer\u00a0exploring a tumultuous time in his life. The majority of the songs cover a period which commenced when he entered rehab in the summer of\u00a02016, right through to the present day where he\u2019s now embracing a new life and outlook as a father.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n After completing his time in rehab in\u00a0Thailand,\u00a0Falconer\u00a0returned home to\u00a0Scotland\u00a0with the idea of making his debut solo album. With a handful of new songs already written (\u2018Poor Me\u2019 and\u00a0\u2018The Therapist\u2019), he also discovered that songs he\u2019d previously penned felt relevant to his new situation.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Originally envisioned as having a\u00a0Beatles-with-strings vibe, the album expanded beyond that vision with an eclectic mixture of genres. Sweeping cinematic strings are prevalent in opening track and lead single\u00a0\u2018Poor Me\u2019, which grows in anthemic intensity before Falconer\u2019s distinctive vocals explode in a visceral roar of emotion. Its chorus is based on the\u00a0Alcoholics Anonymous\u00a0mantra\u00a0\u201cPoor me, poor me, pour me another drink.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cEveryday you get triggers and traumas stuck in your head, and you\u2019re hearing all of these horrible stories,\u201dreflects\u00a0Falconer. \u201cYou want to hear it, but at the same time you\u2019re thinking, \u2018I\u2019m here to help myself but I\u2019ve got to hear everyone else\u2019s story.\u2019 It\u2019s quite hard to hear, and I was thinking that a lot of these people were worse off than me.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n More in keeping with the original concept is confusion. Its woozy-childlike melody was based upon something which Falconer would sing to his daughter, and the track feels like a\u00a0\u2018Sgt. Pepper\u2019outtake reimagined by a\u00a0Scottish Kinks. Elsewhere there\u2019s a distinctive country twang to both\u00a0\u2018Last Bus\u2019\u00a0and\u00a0\u2018Lilly Ann\u2019, which touch upon\u00a0Falconer\u2019slove of\u00a0The Eagles\u00a0and\u00a0Bonnie Raitt.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Falconer\u00a0recorded the album at\u00a0Paul Weller\u2019s Black Barn Studiolast summer. Working alone on twelve-hour-a-day \/ five-days-a-week schedule,\u00a0Falconer\u00a0recorded all of the instrumentation (except for drums, performed by\u00a0Scott Duffy) and vocals, and also wrote the orchestral melodies on a\u00a0Mellotron\u00a0which were later completed in collaboration with the\u00a0Rogue Orchestra. The album was then mixed by\u00a0Charlie Russell\u00a0(Kasabian,\u00a0Jake Bugg).<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The album title came when\u00a0Falconer\u00a0and his family visited\u00a0Liam Gallagher in\u00a0Phuket\u00a0.Falconer\u00a0mentioned\u00a0\u2018No Thank You\u2019\u00a0as a possible title as they listened to an early mix of the album.\u00a0\u201cAnd Liam said, \u2018If you don\u2019t use it, I\u2019m going to use it for my next album\u2019,\u201dlaughs\u00a0Falconer.\u00a0\u201cIt makes a lot of sense. No thanks to a band, no thanks to anyone, I recorded it all myself so no need to thank anyone – just thank me.\u201d\u00a0The duo\u2019s connection continued when\u00a0Falconer\u00a0played his first large scale solo shows as guests on\u00a0Liam\u2019s\u00a0recent arena tour.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Kyle Falconerwas a founder member of\u00a0The View, and the band signed their first record deal when he was just 18-years-old. Their debut album\u00a0\u2018Hats Off To The Buskers\u2019 <\/a>went straight to\u00a0#1in\u00a0January 2007\u00a0and was later nominated for a\u00a0Mercury Prize. Two of the band\u2019s subsequent four albums also hit the\u00a0Top 10, and they also released an unorthodox \u2018best of\u2019 in the shape of\u00a0\u2018Seven Year Setlist\u2019.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n In addition to\u00a0Liam, other influential names have also recognised\u00a0Falconer\u2019s\u00a0talents. He performed on\u00a0Mark Ronson\u2019s\u00a0hit\u00a0\u2018The Bike Song\u2019<\/a> and also joined his live band\u00a0The Business Intl.for some memorable performances which often included their take on the\u00a0Amy Winehouse\u00a0\/\u00a0Zutons classic\u00a0\u2018Valerie\u2019.\u00a0Ronson and the legendary producer\u00a0Quincy Jones\u00a0also teamed up to provide a testimonial to support\u00a0Falconer\u2019s\u00a0application for a visa for him to be able to work in\u00a0America.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Kyle Falconer\u00a0will play his first\u00a0London\u00a0solo headline show at the\u00a0Heavenly Social\u00a0on\u00a0July 18th.
