Phil Collins is retiring<\/span><\/span><\/a> from music after more than 40 years in the business.<\/p>\n

The 60-year-old rocker is stepping away from the limelight and hoping to lead a more private life in his current home in Switzerland.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an interview with the UK version of FHM Magazine, Collins cited health<\/span><\/span><\/a> problems as his main reason for leaving the music industry behind. He also added that listeners seem to have grown sick of him.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I look at the MTV Music Awards and I think: ‘I can’t be in the same business<\/span><\/span><\/a> as this’,\u201d Collins said. “I don’t really belong to that world and I don’t think anyone’s going to miss me. I’m much happier just to write myself out of the script entirely.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The Genesis star and successful solo artist says he has developed several health<\/span><\/span><\/a> problems over the years, including hearing problems, a dislocated vertebra and nerve damage in his hands, which he attributes to a lifetime spent playing live shows and hunched behind a drum set.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Oscar and seven-time Grammy Award winner wants to give his full attention to his family, including his two sons from his third wife Orianne Cevey, whom he divorced four years ago. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I’m not worried about not being able to play the drums again, I’m more worried about being able to cut a loaf of bread safely or building things for my kids,” he says.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Collins is already working on an exit strategy, joking to FHM that <\/span>he will probably just go on a mysterious biking trip and never return.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat would be a great way to end the story, wouldn’t it?”<\/p>\n
