The Huffington Post reports that Roth had traveled to  the event from Tokyo to help the Society of Singers honor Love.  Sometime-Beach Boy John Stamos served as the evening&#8217;s host and joined  in the song on guitar. <br \/>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_9_1_1_1393220849080_1298\">Roth covered the summertime  staple (which Love co-wrote with Brian Wilson) as a single for his 1985  debut solo, two decades after the Beach Boys made it a hit. The two had  never performed the song together before.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_9_1_1_1393220849080_1306\">&#8220;I\u2019m  supposed to make a small address here,&#8221; Roth told the crowd before  launching into the song. &#8220;I don\u2019t know how small this can be \u2013 these are  clearly mentors. If you tear open in the first Van Halen album, beach  sand falls out.
