{"id":408,"date":"2010-11-26T19:30:49","date_gmt":"2010-11-26T19:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/skylight.gr\/administrator_wordpress\/index.php\/2010\/11\/26\/canadian-musicians-call-for-mp3-levy\/"},"modified":"2010-11-26T19:30:49","modified_gmt":"2010-11-26T19:30:49","slug":"canadian-musicians-call-for-mp3-levy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/skylight.gr\/index.php\/2010\/11\/26\/canadian-musicians-call-for-mp3-levy\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadian musicians call for MP3 levy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"standfirst\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.musicweek.com\/Pictures\/web\/c\/d\/c\/canada.jpg\" border=\"0\" width=\"146\" height=\"154\" \/><br \/>A number of Canadian musicians are calling for the country&#8217;s government to impose a levy on MP3 players.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>More than350 artists &#8211; including members of Nickelback and The Tragically Hip &#8211; signed a letter in relation to C-32, the government&#8217;s proposed copyright bill.<\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The bill would implement a blank media levy system, similar to the one relating to cassettes and CD-Rs in the country, whereby royalties would be paid back to copyright owners and musicians in compensation for private copying.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>CTV News reports that a Common committee in Canada has started studying the proposed legislation this week.<\/p>\n<p>The letter to government was put together by the Canadian Private Copying Collective. It states, &#8220;MP3 players are this generation&#8217;s version of blank media.
