Sir Cliff Richard has spoken about his forthcoming support slot with Morrissey, addressing their opposing beliefs regarding the monarchy and vegetarianism. Despite their differences, however, Richard has said he\u2019s grateful to be opening for the former Smiths frontman at New York\u2019s Barclays Centre on 21 June.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great honour for me to be asked by someone like him because no one would expect him to ask me, and that\u2019s what I like about it,\u201d Richard told the BBC. His manager had called him in Barbados with the request from Morrissey, to which Sir Cliff replied that his answer would be \u201cyes but can you check that it\u2019s not a joke, an ulterior motive in any way?\u201d<\/p>\n

Richard also said the chances of him playing to 15,000 people in New York were \u201cpretty well nil\u201d without the support of Morrissey, but stated he was determined to make his one-hour set the best he possibly could: \u201cI\u2019m just going to make it really difficult for Morrissey to follow me.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the past, Morrissey has asked venues<\/a> to refrain from serving meat<\/a> on dates when he\u2019s scheduled to perform, but Richard admits he isn\u2019t planning to go vegetarian for the day, adding: \u201cIf I found he was offended by people eating meat then I won\u2019t eat it in front of him. But I\u2019ll have a chicken curry afterwards.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Richard seemed more preoccupied with deciding what to call Morrissey. \u201cI found out his name is Patrick [Morrissey\u2019s name is actually Steven Patrick], but I\u2019m not quite sure whether he likes to be called Morrissey, Mr Morrissey or Pat,\u201d he said. \u201cAll I can say is \u201cThank you, Patrick, or Morrissey\u201d \u2013 I\u2019m not quite sure how to refer to him \u2013 and I\u2019m so grateful that he\u2019s thought of having me on the show.\u201d<\/p>\n

The True to You fansite<\/a> revealed tour posters for Morrissey\u2019s two confirmed US concerts on Thursday. The first show will be in May and is due to feature Sir Tom Jones and songwriter Kristeen Young, while Sir Cliff will join Young for the Barclays Centre date.<\/p>\n
