{"id":3809,"date":"2013-11-25T05:43:24","date_gmt":"2013-11-25T05:43:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/skylight.gr\/administrator_wordpress\/index.php\/2013\/11\/25\/every-uk-label-turned-down-the-1975-says-label-exec\/"},"modified":"2013-11-25T05:43:24","modified_gmt":"2013-11-25T05:43:24","slug":"every-uk-label-turned-down-the-1975-says-label-exec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/skylight.gr\/index.php\/2013\/11\/25\/every-uk-label-turned-down-the-1975-says-label-exec\/","title":{"rendered":"Every UK label turned down The 1975&#8242; says label exec"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/bazingapop.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/the-1975-live-matty.jpg\" border=\"0\" width=\"220\" height=\"146\" \/><br \/>The 1975\u2019s label head and manager Jamie Oborne has revealed how \u201cevery label in the UK&#8221; passed on the band twice before he signed them to his own indie record company, Dirty Hit.  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>Speaking at last week\u2019s Belfast Music Week, the exec discussed a seven-year struggle to get industry attention.<\/p>\n<p>The band&#8217;s successful recent singles Chocolate and Sex were \u201cwritten about three years ago,\u201d said Oborne &#8211; but most labels couldn\u2019t see how they would translate to radio.<\/p>\n<p>Chocolate was voted Radio 1&#8217;s top track of the last five years in September and reached No.19 on the UK Top 40 earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI managed The 1975 for almost seven years and it got to the point where the band were sick of listening to promises that never came off,\u201d Oborne explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[When the band started to get attention] people on Twitter were saying how they had blown up out of nowhere &#8211; but it\u2019s like, fuck, if only you know the amount of manpower and money that went into that artist [beforehand] you wouldn\u2019t be saying that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Manchester band\u2019s self-titled debut album was released in early September and reached No.1 on the UK albums chart.
