{"id":3797,"date":"2013-11-20T17:20:39","date_gmt":"2013-11-20T17:20:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/skylight.gr\/administrator_wordpress\/index.php\/2013\/11\/20\/no-landmark-status-for-las-tower-records-building\/"},"modified":"2013-11-20T17:20:39","modified_gmt":"2013-11-20T17:20:39","slug":"no-landmark-status-for-las-tower-records-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/skylight.gr\/index.php\/2013\/11\/20\/no-landmark-status-for-las-tower-records-building\/","title":{"rendered":"No landmark status for LA&#8217;s Tower Records building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"yui_3_9_1_6_1384967808849_219\"><span id=\"lw_1384885015164_42\" class=\"yshortcuts cs4-ndcor\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/l3.yimg.com\/bt\/api\/res\/1.2\/paSBbDptLM5MbXHEs1pCpQ--\/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7Zmk9ZmlsbDtoPTQyMTtweG9mZj01MDtweW9mZj0wO3E9NzU7c209MTt3PTc0OQ--\/http:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en_us\/News\/ap_webfeeds\/f249cc9600399127430f6a706700d029.jpg\" border=\"0\" width=\"221\" height=\"124\" \/><br \/>Los Angeles music<\/span> fans are singing the blues after the <span id=\"lw_1384885015164_3\" class=\"yshortcuts cs4-ndcor\">West Hollywood City Council<\/span> voted to deny landmark status for the <span id=\"lw_1384885015164_25\" class=\"yshortcuts cs4-ndcor\">Sunset Strip<\/span> building that formerly housed the flagship Tower Records store.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_9_1_6_1384967808849_223\">The unanimous vote Monday let a decision by the <span id=\"lw_1384885015164_48\" class=\"yshortcuts cs4-ndcor\">historic preservation commission<\/span> stand, not allowing the building to be deemed a cultural resource, <span id=\"lw_1384885015164_32\" class=\"yshortcuts cs4-ndcor\">KNX Radio<\/span> reported (http:\/\/cbsloc.al\/1aBuld9 ).  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_9_1_6_1384967808849_224\">An online petition gathered 1,800 signatures calling on the city&#8217;s urban planner <span id=\"lw_1384885015164_29\" class=\"yshortcuts cs4-ndcor\">Stephanie Reich<\/span> to consider appealing the commission&#8217;s decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_9_1_6_1384967808849_225\"><span id=\"lw_1384885015164_37\" class=\"yshortcuts cs4-ndcor\">Mayor Abbe Land<\/span> said that even though many people had fond memories of Tower, once one of the largest retail record chains, &#8220;it didn&#8217;t meet the criteria&#8221; for preservation. The brick-and-mortar chain collapsed amid competition from online music shop iTunes.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Opponents of the landmark status argued the mid-century building itself is nondescript without Tower&#8217;s signature coat of yellow paint and would best be honored with a plaque, or a music-themed square.
