Cat Fight’s “Attention/Intention” opens with the raw sound of alternative rock guitars, recalling the directness and energy of Foo Fighters. However, the song soon reveals a much dreamier side. As the arrangement expands, elements of dream pop emerge, adding a hazy, almost ethereal quality to the track with traces of Cocteau Twins and Slowdive. This transformation is particularly effective because the song never fully abandons its rock base; instead, the two styles merge. The strongest contrast is provided by the female vocals. Warm, sweet and melancholic, they create an interesting antithesis to the rougher guitars underneath. The guitars sit slightly lower in the mix, allowing the voice to remain the emotional focus while still giving the track enough depth and drive. Rather than aggressively pushing the vocals to the forefront, the production surrounds them with a soft, dreamy atmosphere that reinforces the song’s sense of self-reflection. There is also an intentional lo-fi quality to the overall mix, which becomes an important part of the song’s identity rather than a limiting factor of the production. This lack of clarity gives the track a nostalgic, blurred character, as if the listener is hearing the music through a layer of memory. In that sense, the title becomes particularly fitting: the song intentionally creates contrasts by choosing an imperfect and slightly obscured sound. The result is a meeting point that is successful, combining the roughness of alternative rock with the melancholy of dream pop.
