This phrase instantly puts “UGLY!” in an emotional context, and the music emphasises that concept with a powerful mix of sensitivity and rock energy. The music begins with alternative rock guitars with a characteristic 1990s vibe, followed by fast guitar riffs and a leading bass line that maintains a consistent groove throughout the song. The production creates a pleasing rhythmic base while allowing the vocals to remain at the forefront of the piece. The vocals are warm but dramatic at times, giving the song a level of intensity that works especially effectively when the chorus hits. The mix of alternative rock music and expressive vocals creates an anthemic feel that recalls bands such as Concrete Blonde and Alanis Morissette. Rather than staying in one mood, the song evolves dynamically, switching between slower, almost ballad-like passages and heavier rock sections, giving the arrangement a natural feeling of evolution. The overall sound is already pretty strong, but I believe that a little more work on the mastering might increase the clarity and separation of some frequencies, allowing the various sections to breathe more freely in the mix. This is a minor production flaw, though, because the song’s energy, musical quality, and engaging performance remain intact. There is an authentic feeling of personality here, and the 1990s alternative-rock influence feels integrated into the song rather than just acting as a nostalgic reference. “UGLY!” also has a high cinematic quality. In fact, I could easily imagine this song on the soundtrack of a coming-of-age or teen film, especially during a sequence about insecurity, identity, or the need to feel accepted. Its personal lyrics, catchy guitars, and upbeat but slightly sad rock mood would be ideal in that scenario. It feels like the kind of song that could follow a character gaining confidence in themselves, which makes “UGLY!” not only an excellent rock track, but also a composition with an individual emotional and visual personality.

https://instagram.com/alanamosessinging

According to the UK singer/songwriter, “Have you ever looked in the mirror and not felt…

[14,5
5284,365
post-31649","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pop-rock-reviews","category-reviews","tag-alana-moses","tag-alternative-rock
["GET
