Tom Katz’s vocals instantly join the mix, as the synth pads progressively increase and the piano in the background adds a more light-hearted mood. As the arrangement moves forward, slight electric guitar melodies emerge, adding warmth to the music without detracting from its melancholy core. The vocal performance is notably distinctive, with a spoken-word, poetic style that recalls a Jim Morrison and the ambiance of An American Prayer. Rather than just singing the words, Katz appears to tell them directly to the audience, providing the impression of a personal confession or close conversation. This approach offers the song a cinematic aspect, as if we were listening to someone’s inner thoughts develop in real time. “The Bench” has a very personal touch to it, with meditative music that allows the words to flow. The use of atmospheric synths, piano, soft guitar, and sentimental vocals creates a melancholy and romantic atmosphere that is almost dreamy. It’s the kind of track that doesn’t demand attention with volume or complexity; instead, it speaks gently to the listener and slowly makes its way to the heart.

https://tomkatz.bandcamp.com

“The Bench” begins with calm, atmospheric synths that set a romantic and nostalgic atmosphere.
