Hunt, who is best known for her work with Delerium and as the singer and co-writer of Single Gun Theory, collaborates with her husband and long-time musical partner Brian Conolly on a highly personal collection of songs released through her independent label QUSP. The final result is a moving that uses sophisticated dream pop and ambient sounds to look at loss, nostalgia, optimism, and healing. The title track, “Desiderium,” defines the album’s sound signature. Atmospheric synthesisers and dream pop atmospheres provide an extensive setting, while Jacqui Hunt’s vocals sit in the heart of the mix with surprising elegance. Her voice has a gorgeous aspect that occasionally reminds me of Kate Bush, but her performance is undoubtedly her own creation. The ethereal melodies contrast wonderfully with the soft groove of the percussion, resulting in an engaging beginning that takes the listener to the album’s inner universe. The dreamy adventure continues with “Planet,” where ethereal dream pop sounds recall the golden era of the 4AD label, enhanced by ambient influences suggestive of Enigma. The exotic percussion provides a hypnotic groove that softly pushes the music forward, allowing the layered synthesisers and expansive production to develop naturally. Every component contributes to a realistic soundscape that rewards focused listening. One of the album’s highlights is “Cecilia,” which begins with soft percussion like the low vibration of a vibraphone, followed by vibrating synthesiser sounds that form a highly dramatic arrangement. Daniel Denholm expertly mixed the music, which has exceptional depth and clarity, making headphone listening very satisfying. The large stereo image and detailed layering allow the listener to completely lose touch with themselves in the magical atmosphere. “Cape Of Light” represents a welcome change in energy, adopting a faster rhythmic rhythm while maintaining the album’s lyrical elegance. The arrangement naturally combines Soul influences, and the engaging vocal performance at times feels like Amy Winehouse’s warmth and phrasing. Despite its pleasing groove, the song progressively reveals deeper emotional overtones, particularly in its concluding parts, bringing another layer of complexity to the album’s story. Michael Lynch’s exceptional mastering is most obvious on “This Love,” when the deep mid-tempo electric bass becomes a distinguishing part of the mix. The warm low-end wonderfully complements Hunt’s ethereal vocals, creating a beautifully balanced sound that feels wide-ranging. One of the album’s highlights is its musical consistency, which allows each melody to maintain its unique identity while contributing to a united artistic vision. Later, “Follow Me Here” provides one of the album’s most moving passages. Beginning with a quiet and nostalgic piano arrangement, the song slowly develops as a calming beat enters about 1:54, enhancing the mood and preserving the soft atmosphere. The slow-burning progression nicely captures the album’s ideas of loss, and peaceful hope. Throughout Desiderium, Jacqui Hunt shows a rare talent to combine deeply personal songwriting with high-quality audio production. The modern, almost futuristic mix never masks the music’s dramatic core, but rather enhances its deep qualities with silky sounds, beautiful arrangements, and perfect audio detail.

DESIDERIUM by Jacqui Hunt

https://www.facebook.com/jacquihuntmusic

https://www.instagram.com/jacqui.hunt.music

Famous Australian singer-songwriter Jacqui Hunt turns sadness into beauty on her album Desiderium, after losing…

[14,5
533,5167
post-31222","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pop-rock-reviews","category-reviews","tag-dream-pop","tag-jacqui-hunt
["GET
