The EP, which is further enhanced by a number of creative remixes, such as a reworking of “Monopolar” by Tom Furse of The Horrors, develops more like an ongoing musical trip than a conventional collection of songs. The production, which welcomes the listener into a world best experienced through headphones, is recognised throughout the release for its expansive stereo image, deep soundscapes, and precise attention to atmosphere. With Boards of Canada-inspired synthesisers, hypnotic grooves, and ethereal shoegaze guitars that create an almost cinematic trip and bring out the strange vibe of movies like Trainspotting, the EP’s opening track, “Pouvoir Moteur,” clearly defines its psychedelic identity. The gentler dance groove of “Iridescent” is followed by dreamy synth pads and beautiful guitar sounds that reflect The Cure’s atmospheric elegance while maintaining a light, free-form character. One of the most intriguing parts of the EP, “Monopolar” combines electro, new age, and ambient electronica with “glossy” electronic layers and funky drumming. The title track, “Drips,” opens with fading synths and harsh guitar soundscapes, resulting in a carefully controlled chaos that is accompanied by an expansive mix that emphasises depth and stereo movement above raw loudness. The second half of the EP’s remixes explore these themes from other angles. Jonathan Kusuma’s “Iridescent (Hypnodubmix)” turns the original into a club-ready house track with chopped vocal samples, while Tom Furse’s remix of “Monopolar” emphasises urban-inspired rhythms without losing touch with the dreamy mood. The Hardway Bros provide three diverse interpretations, each exploring various combinations of house, acid, dub, and futuristic electronic sounds, resulting in intriguing remixes with new rhythmic signatures. Lyrically, the EP supports its dreamy aesthetic with images of illusion, change, flight, and inner exploration. Songs like “Monopolar” and “Drips” highlight the music’s ethereal nature, using simple but powerful words to improve rather than overshadow the mental atmosphere. Overall, Drips is a complex and expertly produced release that works both as an electronic listening experience and as a compilation of adventurous dance music.

Drips by Strange Fruit

Strange Fruit – photo by Osman Luqman @oslqmn

https://www.instagram.com/strangefruitofficial

https://www.facebook.com/strangefruitofficial

https://www.instagram.com/tom_furse

Strange Fruit creates a complex with Drips that crosses the lines between ambient music, shoegaze,…

[15,5
2476,2383,436,5026,5182
post-30968","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-electronic-reviews","category-reviews","tag-dance","tag-electronica","tag-shoegaze","tag-strange-fruit","tag-tom-furse
["GET
