Inca Babies revisit twelve songs from their catalogue, which covers 1982 to 2014, and provide them with modern energy and darker, more cinematic sound. Rather than depending on nostalgia, the band approaches these songs as contemporary material, reinventing their post-punk, death-rock, and dark-blues roots for this particular present time. The album begins with “Candy Mountain,” which has futuristic, synthetic vocals floating over guitars that recall the band’s early-1980s sound. The track has a casual, relaxed vibe, but the reverbed guitar sounds offer an unexpected atmospheric dimension, showing the band’s desire to innovate rather than simply copying. Among the best tracks, “Two Rails to Nowhere” impresses with soft percussion and a dark blues tone characteristic of early Nick Cave. Its slow rhythm creates a strong sensation of loneliness, but the funky beats enhance Stafford’s storytelling vocals. Around 2:30, the guitar solo adds an expressive, sad element to the song, enhancing its story and atmosphere. “Phantom Track” combines gentle surf-rock with dark blues to create a chill, cinematic atmosphere that is reinforced by jazzy, soft drumming. Stafford’s storytelling voice become more intense as the story develops, producing a darkly romantic tension that fits wonderfully with the evolving orchestral tone. The cohesiveness of Reincarnation is what makes it intriguing. Despite the decades between the original recordings, these re-recordings sound solid, inspired by Harry Stafford’s ambition to “re-awaken” the songs. The final result is a powerful, fresh trip through the Inca Babies legacy, reborn, inspired, and proudly alive.

Reincarnation by inca babies

Photo Credit: Inca Babies photo by Harry Stafford

https://incababies1.bandcamp.com

https://www.facebook.com/incababies

https://www.instagram.com/stafford2838

Reincarnation is not only a retrospective; it is a resurrection.
